Graham has posted under another thread, and I thought it may get lost there!

Hi Graham and welcome to the forum, but sorry you have RA.

I have quite a few nodules on my hands and feet, some are painful and others are OK. Some come and then disappear and others appear almost overnight and stay put! I can't really offer any advice but I'm sure someone will have more experience than I have.

I'm 66, married to Steve with a daughter, SIL and 2 lovely grandchildren and have had RA for about 8 years now.

Take care and keep posting
Love Jean

Hi Graham

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am not well experienced to give advice but many will help you so much here, it has been invaluable to me.

Hope all proceeds well with the meds, a positive mind is very helpful with RA and as little stress as possible - bit difficult at timesBigGrin

Hi Graham,

Welcome to the forum!
It's good to hear that you have already started on the meds and I hope they are effective for you.
Yes, the nodules can grow back, that's why the surgeons are usually reluctant to remove them but I think it's worth it even if you are only without them for a short time.
Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi Graham,

So sorry you have been diagnosed with RA. I'm very new to all of this myself so can't give you any advice as I was only diagnosed 5 weeks ago. You will get a lot of help and advice on this site so someone will be sure to have the answers for you.

I really hope the medication works for you.

Hi Graham,

I'm sorry you have been diagnosed with RA, welcome to the forum we are all here to help. I am Lorna married to Ken and have 3 grown up daughters. You are on the same combo I was on except Sulph was added to mine as well, I have had RA for almost 3 years now. Keep active but pace yourself and if you do overdo it one day rest the next, try to stay positive it helps. The meds will kick in soon and you will feel much better. Take care Lorna Smile

Hi Graham

Welcome to the forum but sorry to hear you have RA. You will find lots of friendly folk and helpful advice so do keep reading and posting! I'm Lyn, diagnosed with sero-negative RA 22 years ago. Run the gamut of medication (almost!) and several surgical procedures. Currently on Enbrel, Prednisolone and Naproxen; other stuff has either failed completely or lost its efficacy along the way. Ah well ... such is life!

I have had a joint removed on my left thumb and the bones re-structured and fused. My right wrist has been replaced and I have since had a debridement on that wrist to de-clutter! I've also had invasive foot surgery on both feet (which I've since found out would have been better left alone as the problem has returned!) which worked for a time but now as bad as ever!

Many surgeons refuse to remove nodules because they do, unfortunately, have a tendency to recur. If they do grow back early treatment with an intranodular steroid injection may reduce the size of the nodule. Methotrexate is known to accelerate the growth of nodules so do keep a watchful eye on it. It's often a balancing act between what helps the RA and which side effects we can/should put up with.

Hope the meds work well for you Graham and things soon improve for youThumpUp

Welcome to the Club Graham!

Sorry, don't have nodules so can't comment but I too take MTX & HCQ, plus some other drugs. I've taken MTX for about 30 years and not had any problems, hopefully it will work well for you too, once it kicks in.

Good luck with surgery! I've had neurosurgery on my neck and three hip replacements to date, but no small joints.

Hello Graham and welcome to the Forum, I'm sorry that you have RA and I hope you begin feeling better soon when the drugs start to work. I've had RA for over ten years now and I had the noduals more in the earlier years and they went away on their own in time. I'm Glenys, 56, married to Mick and we have two daughters and three grandchildren.

Graham-have you had your iron levels checked recently? RA and anaemia sometimes go hand in hand and anaemia causes extreme tiredness.

Hi Graham .
I had a nougle removed in March because the silly thing grew on top of extra peice of bone i had on my finger born with it .

So was infected and painfull .They tell me it might grow again !!

its healed and now no pain .The bump i was born with i had 56 yrs 11 months and 3 weeks ha ha

MTX TAKES 12 WEEKS TO KICK IN then every week you will tell the differance

its worked fine for me .My nodgle did not look like other peoples .But glad its gone .

i felt like an old lady when i first got dx but it was coming on for 9 months then hit me .
before that you could not put your finger on it .Or wonder what to say to doc .I can also tack it back for a few years .It did show on a blood test that imumme systym was not working right but sent maybe to the wrong doc who was looking at other things that was in 2005 was dx in 2007 .

Hope you feel better soon

hello Graham,

Sorry you are not good with your hands etc.

Keep spirits up. I am off to OT on Tuesday to see about hand splints for day use
They get so sore and fingers just like having toothache.

Take care
